Flight Centenary

1919-2019 Centenary transatlantic flight.

June 1919 was the first non-stop transatlantic flight made by British aviators Alcock and Brown. The flight was made in a modified period Vickers Vimy bomber. They completed the journey in less than 72 consecutive hours winning the Daily Mail prize. Another first was that they carried a small amount of mail so making this the first airmail delivery. Both men received the KBE (Knight Commander of the most excellent order of the British Empire) from King George V.
