National Day celebrations
12 March 2017 was the 49th anniversary of Mauritius independence. It is also the 25th anniversary since being made a Republic. The special guest on this occasion was Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from Ghana.
The parade was held at Champs de Mars, Port Louis with displays from the Mauritius Police Force and guard of honour by the Special Mobile Force. Civilian organisations such as the Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, Scouts, also paraded. The evening ended with cultural events.
