Confinement Occupation

Keeping busy with the hobby.

In Paradise we are still in complete lock-down, confinement and curfew. Each day the media brings bad news about the spread of Covid-19. As of today, we are at 94 positive cases of which two are very young children, with two previous deaths.Ā

Being confined to the home can be stressful after a few days. It is necessary to have occupations and what better than a hobby that you like to pursue. Mine is amateur radio or ham radio as it is called in the U.S. There are many aspects to this hobby, technical and practical. At this time I am putting quite a bit of effort into long distance radio communications using digital modes or the vintage method by Morse code over the air waves. There is a bit of competition aspect to this with the number of contacts and their geographical locations. Competition certificates can be achieved such as the ones I received below (click on pics to enlarge).

So at least, in this time of strict confinement by order of the authorities, I can keep my brain cells active and think about something different than the ongoing morose situation.

  1. I have HUNDREDS of projects in the pipeline . . . well . . . okay – at least ten – but some of those are VERY time-consuming. So I’m still having a happy time inside my head. My next post should include some Marconi radio stuff – and further on the trip I had a go at dit-daaaing on a transmitter. I wasn’t too good at it. I used to know the phonetic alphabet too, but somewhere along the line, I lost that filing cabinet in my brain.

  2. Well Mike, Iā€™m in the same predicament! When I think that I should have been walking on the beach at Flic en Flac, sipping mojitos at the Oasis bar! Nevermind my friend, we can still do that once this pandemic is over! Do take care! šŸ˜€

    1. It is tough being confined so long. We have good weather and we cannot go out. Necessary measures but it is starting to be difficult psychologically. We have continuous worries about getting provisions and the latest online order and delivery system is too weak to handle the demand. On 1st April (hopefully not a fool’s day) will see supermarkets back in operation but the authorities will have some kind of strict control probably an alphabetical system for the population. However, the online order and delivery system will be favoured, in other words, confinement will continue because the spread of the virus has still not been contained. Hopefully, in a few months time we will be sitting at the bar and swapping confinement stories. Take care and thanks for stopping-by on my blog.

  3. That is the way to go forward Mike, during confinement such as occurring now in so many countries too.

Keeping the brain-box active is also a bonus idea for the more elderly people too, keeping the cobwebs away !!!

I have both radio, astronomy and many other things to do at home, so for me also I hope to keep that “box” busy…

    KEEP SAFE & WELL
