The term Zombie is now common in Paradise.
Recently there was a tragic situation where a drug addict beat his own mother to death. Members of the family spoke on camera about their experiences of violence from the addict son. The term Zombie was often used to describe the daily mental state of the addict. Apparently the mother was often beaten when her son was raging for cash to buy drug doses. This elderly mother had numerous occasions where hospital treatment was necessary due to violent attacks. The addict was known to the police for repetitive violent incidents. It is reported that the police did their job of arrest and presenting him to the court. However, the system seems to be too lenient and he had numerous fines which he did not pay.
The family of the victim are unanimous in saying that the system had let them down. In general, the mindset looks at drug addiction as an illness. However, Zombies are dangerous, prone to violent rages and therefore a public danger. This situation requires a change of mentality from the authorities. Judicial review of arrest and prosecution for violence under the influence of hard drugs need change. For example, a convicted Zombie for aggravated bodily harm should be mandatory interned in specialised closed institutes for treatment and rehabilitation. Creating specialised closed centres for this purpose will be a costly burden on society. Budgets would also require the recruitment of specialised staff both medical and security. In this 2025 period it is unlikely that Paradise could financially undertake such a project.
Meanwhile, drug-taking by our young people is on the increase. It makes you wonder why someone would pump their body with this poison ? Is it for a thrill experience or is it because of despair ? Many are hooked on synthetic type drugs which have a devasting effect on the brain. Once addicted it is an evil spiral into the abyss of slavery to drugs. Not only is the addict affected but also the close family members who also suffer upheaval in their lives.
Something urgent is needed to heal these Zombies. This situation is taking the lives of our younger generation. Today, it represent a major crisis here in Paradise.
This is a tragedy to these young addicts and their families!…..It makes one wonder why they start on this downward slope when they know what is awaiting for them down the line! The authorities must take decisive action as the drug pushers and barons are well known to the police!…..It must be a priority of the new government to inflict harsh sentences on the people responsible for bringing misery and despair to so many people!….
So sad, Mike.
Drug addiction is a horrendous situation in this world. It is basically an epidemic. I am so sorry your beautiful island got caught up in its grasp.
