Enslavement Register

Huge research on enslavement available.

Recent research and digitalization has been accomplished. This work is now available for consultation by slavery descendants and the public in general. It brings another dimension to the magnitude of the historical facts. Consultation or researching of enslaved ancestry brings a very human emotional factor. People mainly from African countries kidnapped, enslaved and trafficked to various parts of the world. Humans sold, bought like cattle to be used in forced labour.

This register contains 300,000 pages entitled “Former British Colonies Enslavement Registers” covering 20 former British colonies including Mauritius. The register is coded T71 at the British National Archives. However, online consultation is available for the public through Ancestry.com (click on this link) through a free registration.
